Fox Hollow Farm Notes
Each week this season we will post the latest farm notes on our Web site by Thursday. These informal "notes" will cover:
Despite snow, cold weather, and abundant rain this Spring, we are officially open! Our featured plant is the hellebore. Many of the one gallon pot sized hellebores are coming into bloom, and are on display in the retail area across from the barn.
Hellebores are easy to grow if we meet a few of their cultural requirements. They prefer summer shade and winter sun. They need amendments of humus and manure when being planted, and 5-10-5 in early spring each year. I also top dress them with leaf mould when I cut off the old leaves in early March. Each year, these stalwart beauties bring their early elegant flowers to enrich our gardens. The new shipment of perennials have arrived at the farm: 12 varieties of double-flowered primulas, the alstroemerias, and the best green-flowered hellebore, H. cyclophyllus. More about these and other plants next week. Happy Gardening! More Fox Hollow Farm notes:
